Pacquiao and Cotto highlight fall boxing schedule

As if the boxing betting slate in the fall months wasn't stacked enough as it is, Bob Arum has just brought together his two biggest box office attractions for a mega fight. Possibly even overshadowing the SHOWTIME super middleweight tournament and Floyd Mayweather vs. Juan-Manuel Marquez, is the recently announced Manny Pacquiao-Miguel Cotto clash on November 14.

Diehard fans and celebrities alike are already weighing in on what the boxing odds might say. Even superstar athletes Kobe Bryant and Derek Jeter have already contacted Arum's Top Rank offices in hopes of tickets, and have thrown their support towards Manny Pacquiao.

It would seem that the sports betting public in general is predicting a Pacquiao victory, which is an incredible testament to what the "Pacman" has already accomplished, and the destroyer image he has created for himself. How often is a fighter moving up in weight against a linear champion in the division a decided favorite amongst those betting on boxing, and the boxing lines? Perhaps Roberto Duran when he took on Sugar Ray Leonard for the first time? It would be difficult to pinpoint anyone having done what Manny Pacquiao is doing right now.

However, Cotto is arguably the biggest and strongest fighter Pacquiao has encountered in his career to date. Erik Morales was certainly a destructive puncher, but not with the kind of weight behind him that Cotto possesses. Outside of his skills though, stylistically, this is a very bad match for the Puerto Rican. He has shown in his last two fights that he does not handle pressure fighters very well. Arguably, Cotto would have lost his last contest to Joshua Clottey if the Ghanian had thrown more punches.

Nobody throws more punches than Manny Pacquiao.

It will be interesting to see the game plan the Cotto camp comes up with, as laying against the ropes and counterpunching like he is Bobby Chacon will only result in a knockout loss and a big payday for the millions who will bet on Pacquiao.

However, if he switches it up and uses his long frame to keep the fight on the outside, his strength will be maximized and he could be in line for a major upset on boxing odds.

Nonetheless, there's no question that this could be the biggest sports betting event of the year, and is sure to be prominently featured on the BetUS sportsbook in the weeks to come.
