Pacquiao showing true form

Pacquiao vs Cotto News
DESPITE the heavy rains battering Baguio City and the rest of northern Luzon, Manny Pacquiao is showing signs of his true form in disposing legendary boxers in the like of Oscar dela Hoya and Eric Morales.

Loose, relaxed and focused, Pacquiao heated up the closed-door sparring session held on a cool, stormy Tuesday afternoon by repeatedly pounding the bigger Shawn Porter in three rounds of heavy punching.

Pacquiao entered his third week of training in the country’s Summer Capital, which was pummeled by typhoon “Pepeng” over the weekend, by doing 15 rounds of mitts with Freddie Roach.

Pacquiao broke camp Saturday evening after sparring five rounds with Shawn Porter and Urbano Antillon.

He braved the storm to take a 250-km ride to Manila and personally help distribute relief goods to victims of last week’s tropical storm “Ondoy” last Monday.

Pacquiao and his entourage were back in Baguio close to midnight of Sunday.

It took them longer than usual to get there because, according to one of his bodyguards, Jojo Sta. Teresa, there was “zero visibility” on the zigzagging, cliff-hanging roads leading to Baguio.

At the Shape Up Gym, it was business as usual Tuesday as it looked like the mitts on Roach’s hands were ready to explode.

From right hook to his dreaded left, Pacquiao was connecting on just about every angle, leaving Porter a little bit battered for the first time since sparring started in his camp began.

Unbeaten in 10 fights (with eight KOs), Porter had been dominant in his first five rounds of sparring with Pacquiao until Saturday when the Filipino ring icon, slowly getting back into fighting shape, finally got the better end of his solid exchanges with the former U.S. Olympic team alternate in three punishing rounds.

The spirited effort certainly satisfied American trainer Freddie Roach, who earlier rated Pacquiao’s present condition to be within the 40 percent range.

But he expects the 30-year-old Filipino superstar to get better as the fight night approaches.

After three weeks of training, Pacquiao is already looking forward to making Baguio a part of his training for future fights where he earlier said he will make it a point to train in the city because of the altitude.
