PACQUIAO WRAPS UP MANILA TRAINING CAMP
Mandaluyong City - Manny Pacquiao's final training day in Manila went smoothly Saturday morning at Gerry Penalosa's Gym in Mandaluyong City. Pacquiao underwent a ten round sparring session that was closed to the local media.
But Dong Secuya and I managed to enter the gym after the Manny sparred to catch the rest of his routine.
Former two division world champ Dodie Penalosa, who is a member of Team Pacquiao, said that Manny sparred for ten rounds with Shawn Porter and Urbano Antillon. When asked if he agrees with Trainer Freddie Roach's prediction that Pacquiao will knock out Cotto in round one if he doesn't run, Penalosa said “ Cotto is not a runner. He'll just step back then trade punches. It could happen.”
Pacquiao proceeded to hit the speedbag, skipped rope and shadow boxed inside the ring. Pacquiao showed the tremendous hand and foot speed responsible for scoring three straight one sided victories in an a span of one year. His stamina is incredible. Pacquiao said that our warm weather has worked to his advantage.
Pacquiao even sang a few bars of the Florante classic “Handog” while he was cooling down. Manny ended his routine with a few minutes of silence and prayer. He was blessed by a Catholic priest after a brief ceremony inside the gym. Pacquiao gamely posed for photos with the few adoring fans who managed to get inside. There was a huge crowd waiting for him outside who chanted his name when he left the building. Team Pacquiao leaves for the U.S tonight and will continue to train at Roach's Wild Card Gym.
