Manny Being Manny During Media Day Workout
November 5th, 2009 | by Oliver Suarez
Yesterday was Manny Pacquiao’s Media day at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California. The atmosphere and attitude during the event couldn’t be any different from Cotto’s Media day in Los Angeles the previous day. Whereas Cotto’s Media day was serious and all business, Pacquiao’s natural playful personality made his workout day animated and entertaining. He sang, joked around with the media and even acted as a reporter for a Philippine TV station, attracting applause from the crowd. When asked about how he felt regarding Cotto’s confidence in defeating him, Manny jokingly replied in his native language, “Siguro pag nakatali ang mga kamay ko sa likod,” which means “Maybe with my hands tied behind my back.”
But it was all business when he worked the mitts. Pacquiao displayed amazing footwork and looked faster and stronger than ever. What’s more astonishing is that his climb up the weight classes has not affected his explosiveness. Rashad Holloway was not mistaken when he said, “Manny can close the gap so quick.” The way Manny bounces side to side and darts in and out so quickly will be a big problem for Cotto. Pacquiao’s tree trunks for legs not only help him generate tremendous power in his punches, but also allow him to instantly place himself in any position that he wants inside the ring.
Miguel Cotto better be ready come November 14th because typhoon Pacquiao is coming full speed with only one mission, which is to make history and bring honor to his country.
