Mysterio carries Mexican pride against Pacquiao; Donaire sleeps with manager
I disdain rumors, innuendo and hearsay.
I absolutely abhor gossip.
But my source is well placed and my information is solid.
So I will pass this on especially considering that he is headlining Bob Arum’s “Pinoy Power 2” PPV TV show next Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Nonito Donaire, second star in the Filpino boxing firmament, is sleeping with his manager….
Got to give creative credit to Pro Wrestling Examiner Rick Rockwell for his nifty piece on why the WWE should create a role for Manny Pacquiao.
I second the motion and, although I need not send an Open Letter to Mr. McMahon, I will go a step futher and suggest the Pacman story line have Megamanny and his part Pinoy grappler pal Batista up against top Mexican wrestler Rey Mysterio.
The announcers can have Mysterio picking up the fallen mantle of Mexican ring pride and trying to avenge the boxing icons such as Morales and Barrera who Pacquiao hammered. God forbid that Mysterio nail Pacman with the celebrated 619 move.
Then, for a smashing conclusion to the Manny role, they should bring back Floyd Mayweather Jr.—maybe this time he teams up with The Big Show—and they attack everybody.
How valuable a promotional kickoff bit would it be to see Pacquiao and Mayweather in the same ring even if they mayhem is only scripted?
One more rassling note if you will.
I was working for Don King when a pal called from WWE headquarters in Stamford, Ct
This was when Mike Tyson was, pre his Indiana prison stint, at the peak of his pugilistic power,
The ultimate WWE icon at the time was suicide blond Hulk Hogan.
Did I think, the man asked, that Tyson would want a $4 million payday to “fight” Hogan under special rules and a carefully formatted script.
I asked the man to put the offer in writing and fax it into our Florida office. And he did. I then strolled into DK’s office and revealed the offer.
Later on, I found out that the wily promoter quickly relayed the offer to the gullible Tyson.
King’s rap went a little something like this: “Mike, how would you like to make a quick $2 million? All you got to do is rassle this Hulk Hogan guy. Nobody gets hurt, easy money, what do you say?”
Later, I told a businessman friend, a real sharpie, about the situation. Was I surprised, he said, that King chopped the offer in half?
“Oh, yes,” I said, “it’s hard to believe Uncle Don was going to give Mike 50 percent of the deal.”
Normally, Don took the "it's for the greedy, not the needy" view and took a bigger cut for himself.
Tyson-Hogan never transpired.
I’d have picked Hogan, best two out of three falls.
Oh, and suicide blond, I just mean dyed by his own hands.
Only Hogan's hairdresser knew for sure.
